Working in Bulgaria
Foreigners are permitted to work in Bulgaria for three months or less without
a work permit but must register with the Employment Agency. A register
of foreigners holding short-term employment is kept by the Employment
Agency.
Foreigners
wanting to work in Bulgaria on a freelance basis will be charged
1000 leva for the issue of a new work permit or for extension of
a current permit. A further 50 leva will be charged for the handling
of an application for an initial work permit or 25 leva for an application
for extension, while the issuing of a replacement freelance work
permit will cost 200 leva. The document handling fees for an initial
freelance work permit must be paid through Bulgarian diplomatic
missions or consular posts. The fees
are charged in leva on Bulgarian territory and in euros or in local
currency abroad. The amount of the fee is converted from euro into
the local currency at the official exchange rate.
